3.5-stars because these toilets are extremely expensive to buy, and there are ongoing use expenses. If I were basing this review on price alone I would give it 1-star; it is prohibitively expensive. Also, your toilet bowl liner operating cost will be about $1CAD/day. You’ll also be paying your daily gas or electricity usage to flush this thing. All in all, significantly more upfront and ongoing expenses and maintenance than a traditional toilet. For the price they really should include more (ie. Install kit). We are 2 adults using this as our primary toilet in our tiny house, and it needs cleaning about once a week. Actual cleaning only takes about 10 mins and isn’t gross (I don’t bother with gloves), but it does take your toilet out of commission for an hour or two because you ‘flush’ tap water through it to steam clean it as well. Now for the pros…you can install this toilet basically anywhere in your house which makes retrofits or installations in funky layouts possible; our install would have been impossible without this or a composting toilet. It is extremely clean since it doesn’t sweat like a traditional toilet does, which means it doesn’t collect all kinds of dust and crap. As soon you open the lid a fan turns on, so this thing is ACTUALLY odourless, and you close the lid to flush, so I’m really not kidding when I say odourless. You might catch a whiff of burning plastic smell every now and then depending on how you’ve chosen to vent it out of your house, window placement, and wind direction, but that’s almost irrelevant. This would be a poor replacement for a traditional toilet in a traditional home; it would be like installing starlink in your downtown condo. This is THE toilet to get for certain applications. No plumbing, no septic tanks/fields, easy installation if you’re handy, light enough for a 1-person carry if necessary. I am very pleased with my toilet, and I would purchase it again for the right application….for our home it’s indispensable, and was absolutely the right choice.
